Director of the STEM Honors Sequence for the 2024-2025 School Year

Austin Classical School (www.austinclassical.org) is a classical, Christian, collaborative school that currently serves families with Pre-K through 11th grade students.  As a collaborative school, students are on-campus two to four days per week being taught by professional educators, and on remaining weekdays, they are at home completing assigned schoolwork under the guidance of their co-teaching parent. 

ACS is seeking a skilled math or science teacher that desires to take his or her teaching vocation to the next level as a teacher, leader, and mentor by serving as the Director of the STEM Honors Sequence for the ACS School of Rhetoric. This position requires the teacher to be on campus on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Most Fridays are flex-work from home.

We are looking for a candidate who:

  • Possesses 5+ years of relevant classroom experience teaching math and/or science at the high school level or above;
  • Has a bachelor’s degree in a STEM-based field (master’s preferred);
  • Maintains the ability to teach any high school level math or science course;
  • Loves and serves God wholeheartedly;
  • Truly enjoys teaching and engaging with high school students;
  • Desires to partner with co-teaching parents in educating students;
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Has a deep passion for the truth, goodness, and beauty within the scope of a science and math education;
  • Desires to teach using a classical approach in a Christian setting;
  • Is willing to continue to learn and grow as a professional;
  • Joyfully affirms our Statement of Faith.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach one section of each of the following courses: Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Physics I, and Physics II. Classes are held on M/T/W/Th between the hours of 9:00a-4:00p.
  • Oversee and advise 2-4 seniors working on STEM-focused theses as part of the STEM Honors Sequence and a requirement for the diploma.
  • Develop lesson plans for both on-campus and homeschool days.
  • Create a joyful, grace-filled environment where students enjoy learning together.
  • Engage students in age-appropriate classical instruction.
  • Assess students both formally and informally and reflect results in their quarterly grade reports and periodic conduct reports.
  • Communicate consistently, truthfully, and graciously with co-teaching parents.
  • Maintain a tidy and orderly classroom, taking care of curricula and equipment belonging to ACS.
  • Encourage students to uphold high expectations with regards to classroom behavior.
  • Serve collaboratively with other teachers on a curriculum committee to help build out the rhetoric math and science curriculum.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Head of School.

On-Campus Time Requirements:

  • Summer faculty training days will be held July 31-August 2.  Meetings with parents and students will be held the week of August 5-9.
  • On-campus instructional days for 9th – 12th grade students are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays through the calendar school year (August 12, 2024-May 21, 2025).
  • Monthly faculty meetings are held one Friday of each month from 9a-12p.
  • New faculty will meet one additional Friday of each month from 9a-12p.

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience and degree, starting at $60,000 for 5 years or more of teaching experience and a B.S. or similar degree.  Teachers are paid monthly August-May.
