Job Summary: The Covenant School seeks a qualified, collegial, and experienced teacher of High School History who possesses a strong understanding of Classical Christian pedagogy.

This teacher will be a mature Christian dedicated to lifelong learning and professional growth, passionate about nurturing and inspiring students, and enthusiastic about collaborating with a committed team of administrators and teachers to support Covenant’s mission.

The History Teacher should possess an extensive background in history and have a deep understanding of historical eras, major events, and influential figures.  S/he should be adept at presenting complex historical ideas in a meaningful, thought-provoking manner that fosters wonder and reflection on the significance of history in God’s world.

The History Teacher will cultivate a classroom environment where students engage in rich discussions and debate, learning to think deeply about human history and its implications.

Essential Functions:    The ideal teacher will consistently perform the following:

  • Exhibit the fruits of the Spirit, serving as a Christian role model both in and out of school.
  • Set a good example for students, parents, and colleagues in speech, actions, attitude, judgment, dignity, and respect, while living in obedience to God’s Word.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of course material while maintaining a genuine enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Teach five sections of high school courses, as assigned.
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of 8 to 10 students, once a week for 20 minutes.
  • Integrate a Christian worldview and Covenant’s  philosophy of education throughout the curriculum.
  • Provide an orderly teaching environment, consistently enforcing class rules and school policies and showing good stewardship of classroom materials.
  • Teach in an engaging fashion, employing a variety of techniques that lead to active learning and long-term memory.
  • Utilize school-provided technology and software to maintain accurate and consistent records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress, ensuring timely and organized reporting.
  • Communicate in a wise and effective manner with supervisors, colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Serve as a shepherd to each student, advising them in their walk with Jesus Christ.

Minimum Experience and Background: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, with significant postsecondary coursework in History.
  • Proven track record of excellent teaching.
  • Rhetorical excellence in the spoken and written word.
  • Experience or interest in classical education and traditional pedagogy is highly preferred
