Description
The Geneva School is a mission-driven school established in 1993. Our mission is to provide students in grades K4–12 an extraordinary education, by means of an integrated curriculum, pedagogy and culture, both distinctly classical and distinctively Christian, that pursues goodness, truth, and beauty in all spheres of life, while viewing these spheres as elements of divinely ordered whole. As a mission-driven school, faculty members play a central role in fulfilling our mission. Hired by and subject to the supervision of the director of rhetoric school (grades 9-12), the Spanish teacher is a part-time position for the 2025/2026 school year and will grow into full-time in the years ahead. The teacher, in a formational and relational role, models Christ-like behavior within The Geneva School community as he or she studies, re-imagines, and teaches within the Christian, liberal arts tradition.
I. Essential Duties
The Geneva School Spanish teacher instructs students in the in the Spanish language, including grammar, vocabulary, and cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries. Responsibilities include developing lesson plans, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive learning environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Classroom Instruction: Teaching Spanish language skills, including speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
- Lesson Planning: Designing and implementing engaging lesson plans and curricula.
- Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assessing student understanding and progress through a variety of methods, including tests (assessments), quizzes, homework, and presentations. Providing constructive feedback in order to improve students understanding and mastery of the Spanish material. Tracking student progress and identifying areas where students may need additional support.
- Cultural Awareness: Helping students understand and appreciate Spanish-speaking cultures.
- Classroom Environment: Maintaining a positive and productive learning environment. Addressing student behavior issues in accordance with the school’s policies and practices. Skillfully managing a classroom of high school students with varying academic skills.
- Communication: Providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student performance. Posting grades and assignments in a timely manner and corresponding or conversing regularly with student’s parents regarding student progress or concerns.
- Collaboration: Participating in faculty meetings and collaborative planning sessions.

- Lift 20 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. frequently

- See, talk, and hear to communicate with others in person, electronically, by phone, or by radio. Visual functions include the ability to identify and distinguish colors and bring an object into sharp focus.
II. Personal Profile
Required skills and experience:
- Proficiency in Spanish: Deep understanding of the Spanish language, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and idiomatic expressions. Able to convey concepts clearly and engagingly while tailoring the language level to suit the needs of students.
- Cultural Competence: Possesses an effective knowledge of Spanish-speaking cultures, including familiarity with the history, traditions, literature, and social norms of Spanish-speaking countries.
- Excellent communication skills: Ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Teaching experience: Proven ability to effectively deliver lessons and engage students in active learning.
- Classroom management: Establish a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages discussion, questions, and constructive feedback. Utilize effective classroom management strategies to maintain student focus and accountability.
- Professional development: Partner with colleagues to share best practices and enhance student success.
- Relevant education: Bachelor's degree, preferably in Spanish Language from an accredited institution.
