The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic educator to teach foreign language (French and/or Spanish) at the lower school level (grades K-5). Our school, which serves over 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning, rooted in the Western Liberal Arts tradition, focused on the formation of the whole person—mind, body, and soul. Our faculty leads with an incarnational approach that seeks to equip and inspire students to live well through service to God and others.

Position Overview:

This part-time teacher will be conversationally fluent in the target language and possess a thorough knowledge of the literature, art, geography, history, and culture associated with the language. Candidates should possess a mature, Christian faith and an educational philosophy that is consistent with The Covenant School’s mission statement and Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences pedagogy. Candidates must be able to foster a classroom environment that promotes joy in learning, love of language, and care and respect for others, and must be able to meaningfully integrate their Christian faith into their teaching. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in a related field as well as an education degree are preferred. The ideal candidate will cultivate strong partnerships with parents while fostering an engaging and positive culture in the classroom.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the target language, education, and/or a related field
  • Proven experience teaching lower school students
  • Teaching certification
  • Strong ability to integrate their Christian faith authentically in the context of their teaching
