Position Overview
Christ Covenant School is seeking a passionate, creative, and dedicated Grammar School Teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will be committed to teaching students in the early grades (typically kindergarten through grade 5) within a classical Christian framework. This teacher will be responsible for creating a nurturing environment that encourages academic excellence, spiritual formation, and the development of good habits and virtues in students.
Responsibilities
- Instruction:
- Teach a variety of subjects including, but not limited to, language arts (grammar, spelling, reading, writing), math, history, science, and Bible to students in grades K-5, depending on grade assignment.
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that align with the school’s curriculum and classical educational philosophy.
- Incorporate classical methods such as memorization, recitation, and Socratic questioning to deepen students’ understanding of core subjects.
- Integrate a biblical worldview into all subject areas, helping students understand the relationship between their studies and God’s creation.
- Provide differentiated instruction to meet the varying needs of students, ensuring that each child has the support and challenge necessary to thrive.
- Classroom Management:
- Create a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment that encourages curiosity, responsibility, and kindness.
- Develop clear expectations for behavior and academic performance, and uphold school-wide policies with consistency and fairness.
- Encourage students to develop the virtues of diligence, honesty, responsibility, and respect for others through modeling and classroom practices.
- Assessment & Feedback:
- Regularly assess students’ progress through both formal and informal assessments, such as quizzes, projects, oral presentations, and written work.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and parents on academic progress, behavior, and areas for growth.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance, and communicate with parents about their child's development as needed.
- Spiritual Leadership:
- Model a Christ-centered approach to teaching, learning, and relationships, demonstrating love for God and others in every aspect of school life.
- Lead students in prayer, Bible study, and spiritual reflection, helping them to grow in their faith and understanding of Scripture.
- Encourage students to integrate their Christian beliefs into their academic work and interactions with peers.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other members of the Grammar School faculty to ensure consistency in teaching methods, curriculum, and school culture.
- Participate in regular faculty meetings and professional development opportunities to grow in teaching effectiveness and understanding of classical education.
- Collaborate with parents and other school staff to support students' academic and personal growth.
- Extra-Curricular Engagement:
- Actively participate in school-wide activities such as assemblies, chapel services, and special events.
- Take part in extracurricular programs or school-wide initiatives, such as field trips, school festivals, or community service projects, to enrich the school experience for students.
Qualifications
- Education:
- A bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Liberal Arts, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in Education or a similar field is preferred.
- Coursework or training in classical education is a strong plus.
- Experience:
- Previous experience teaching in an elementary school setting is preferred, particularly in a Christian or classical school environment.
- A demonstrated ability to teach early elementary students and guide them through the foundations of academic learning and character development.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of elementary curriculum and child development, with an ability to teach multiple subjects effectively.
- Strong classroom management skills and a positive, nurturing attitude toward students.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Proficiency with classroom technology and educational tools.

- A personal commitment to the Christian faith and a desire to integrate biblical truth into every aspect of teaching.

- An understanding and commitment to the principles of classical education.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to teach and actively engage with students for extended periods, including standing, walking, and moving about the classroom.
- Ability to lift and carry classroom materials, teaching supplies, and books as needed.
- Comfort with occasional outdoor activities such as recess supervision or field trips.
