In February, I attended the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) Conference in London. More than 4,000 leaders gathered from over 80 countries, a quarter represented from the United States. Jordan Peterson and Philippa Stroud launched ARC to recover the foundations of western civilization by telling a better story. The goal is to provide a hopeful vision of human flourishing by restoring the values, ideals, and principles that allowed civilization to thrive, based on a belief that cultural renewal will succeed through dense works of key leaders who collaborate toward a common vision.
David and Philippa Stroud are pioneering in bold and inspiring ways. We need Christian leaders like them who combine courage, wisdom, and vision with the ability to execute. They are stewarding their gifts and influence in extraordinary ways. They are also kind, humble, gracious, hospitable, godly people! The Strouds lead boldly and stand firmly on their faith and principles, but have not become cynical, jaded, or petty. No wonder God is blessing their work so abundantly.Â
I am thankful to be partnering with David and Philippa through the work of SCL. They have participated in our events, advocated for our new growth campaign, introduced us to a host of incredible leaders, and publicly endorsed our work. On Tuesday of the conference, they invited us to sponsor a dinner for 250 people to introduce them to classical education. We received inquiries from 16 different countries! Alongside Chris Perrin, Leslie Moeller, Jeremy Tate, and Jamie Burns, we shared about the work God has done in the U.S. over the last 40 years. It was a fantastic opportunity!Â
While I was in London, I was also able to work with Jamie Burns, incoming Head of School at St. Anselm’s in Cardiff (Wales). Jamie and I met with various leaders and supporters of the growing work of classical Christian education in the U.K. Erik Twist, CEO of Arcadia Education and SCL partner, and I spoke at a conservative think tank and foundation in London. We discussed the state of British education with government leaders and scholars. We also spoke at the National Club, a club started in 1862 to foster thoughtful discussion and civic reform among Christians in the city. Nearly 80 people joined us to hear about the growth of classical Christian education in the States and explore how it may expand in the UK.
My last few days were spent in Salisbury where Jamie and his family live. They, among others, are doing the hard, thankless work to build up classical education. They are not the only ones, but they are faithful and unwavering. They will look back on these days as foundational and formative for a distinctly British classical movement!
The work being done through ARC and the growing global interest in classical Christian education is a powerful reminder of the need for bold, visionary leadership grounded in faith and conviction. It is not enough to simply lament the cultural and educational challenges of our time; we must actively engage in restoring what is good, true, and beautiful. The partnerships formed through this conference, the relationships strengthened, and the opportunities that emerged reflect the hand of God moving through the faithful efforts of many.
As classical Christian education expands in the U.K. and beyond, we are witnessing the early stages of what could be a profound renewal in education. This is not the work of a single organization or leader, but of a movement united by a shared commitment to shaping the next generation with wisdom, virtue, and a deep love for Christ. I am deeply encouraged by the partnerships being forged, the hunger for meaningful education, and the willingness of leaders to do the hard work of building something that will last. May we continue to labor with faithfulness and courage, trusting that God will bring the increase.
